Special Opportunities
Special Opportunities
Students in the College of Human Sciences have many opportunities to gain experiences in addition to traditional academic studies. Currently our special programs include:
Jump Start - Jumpstart pairs highly-trained college students with preschool children struggling in Head Start and other early learning programs for one-to-one tutoring in school readiness skills. This program provides a high-quality, comprehensive experience that focuses on the development of the child, his or her family, and the college student serving as an AmeriCorps member. Through these three program areas — school success, family involvement and future teachers — Jumpstart works to create an environment of life-long learning for children.
Multicultural Programs - In its eighth year, Mentoring Multicultural Students in the Food and Nutritional Sciences (MEMS) is a mentoring program designed to increase the number of multicultural professionals in the fields of nutrition, food and exercise sciences. Mentoring, which focuses on career and graduate education awareness, includes activities in three areas: professional development, social support, and recognition.
