Graduation Checks

Upon completion of 90 hours students must complete two graduation checks, one for liberal studies requirements and one for departmental requirements. The liberal studies grad check must be filed with the Registrar at the University Center. Advisors located in 207 Sandels Bldg.  will assist you with your departmental graduation check. Failure to complete both graduation checks will result in a hold being placed on your registration.

Mapping

Students entering the university after fall 2007 all students will be mapped, or tracked, in their respective major. Your academic map, or 4 year plan, recommends which classes to take each semester to ensure that you will graduate on time and fulfill proper pre-requisites before moving on to the next course. The "sample schedule" on the left hand column of your academic map is the recommended schedule. Specific courses will be marked as "milestone" courses.  These milestones will also be listed on your academic map in the right hand column. You must successfully complete these milestone courses by the end of the term listed. For example, if HUN 1201 is a term 2 milestone course, you must finish that course with a B- or better by the end of your term 2. If you start in Fall 07, the Fall 07 term would be term 1; Spring semester would be term 2, etc. Summers are not mapped, but it may be recommended that you take summer courses for your particular major. If you do not successfully complete the required milestone course by the end of the term listed, you will be considered “off course” in your intended major. After you are off course once you will have a hold placed on your registration. You will need to meet with your advisor to have the hold removed. If you are “off course” for two consecutive terms you will be removed from the major. You may find your curriculum sheet and your academic map below.

Note: Your plan of study depends on when you enter your major. If you declared your major in fall of 2008 you will follow the 2008-2009 curriculum sheet for your major. You may choose to follow a newer curriculum, but it must be followed in its entirety.

Major Changes

Admission to the major is dependent on grades earned in previous courses, specifically those required for the major, GPA, and completion of HUN1201 with a B- or better. If you are basic division (usually freshman or sophomore), see the appropriate NFES advisor in suite 207. If you are upper division and have completed HUN1201 with a B- or better, please see Regina Fassig in 207 Sandels Bldg.

Transfers

Transferring individual courses from another school:

Courses with the same three letters and same last three digits will transfer as equals. For example HUN2201 will transfer as HUN1201. If a course has a different course number but similar title it may not transfer. For example BSC2085 Anatomy and Physiology I is not the same as PET3322, Functional Anatomy and Physiology I. If you are unsure as to whether or not a course will transfer, please contract your advisor. Be sure to provide a copy of the course description and syllabus to help evaluate the courses.

If you are currently an FSU student and would like to take a course at a different institution, please contact your advisor about transient student status or co-op student status. You may need to supply documentation and explanation of why this course must be taken outside of FSU with your transient or co-op form. A student’s last 30 hours must be taken at FSU.

Transfer Students:

In addition to meeting general requirements for admission to the university, students must also meet pre-requisite academic mapping requirements for their intended major.

Prerequisites: Requirements for all majors include HUN1201 with a B-. Please refer to the FSU Undergraduate Bulletin or speak with an advisor to get a complete list of pre-requisite courses for your intended major.

Academic mapping requirements: Academic mapping provides a sample schedule for each major and milestone courses to keep students on track for graduation in a timely manner. Mapping is divided into terms: freshman fall, approximately 15 credit hours is term 1, freshman spring, approximately 30 credit hours is term 2, sophomore fall, and approximately 45 credit hours is term 3, etc. Summers are not mapped and provide students a chance to catch up or get ahead in their plan of study.

To transfer into a major, you must complete all milestone courses for the term equivalent to the number of transfer hours. For example: if you transfer into FSU as a junior with 60 credit hours, then you will need to have completed all milestone courses through term 4 before being placed into your intended major. It is recommended that you also complete all courses on the sample schedule. If courses listed as milestone courses are not offered at your institution, please contact the appropriate advisor.
