Challenging Undergraduate Program
Exercise Science provides students with expertise in human
nutrition and exercise physiology. FSU was the first university
in the nation to offer this innovative curriculum combining nutrition
and exercise physiology. A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required for
graduation in this major.
Exercise Science prepares students for graduate study in exercise physiology and post-graduate training in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, chiropractic, physician’s assistant, and physical or occupational therapy programs. Students are also prepared for positions as personal trainers and health fitness instructors with hospital-based and corporate fitness programs. Graduates are prepared to enter certification programs offered through the American College of Sports Medicine. The program requires extensive coursework in anatomy, physiology, chemistry, exercise physiology, and metabolism.
Students may have the opportunity to apply knowledge and skills through supervised practicums. In the practicum courses, students may be assigned to work with specific medical and community agencies.
Students have many opportunities to develop leadership skills in professional settings through participation in student organization such as the Exercise Science Club.
