Today’s interest in healthy lifestyles is translating into a remarkable range of career opportunities related to diet, fitness, and well-being. FSU’s cutting-edge undergraduate programs in Nutrition, Food and Exercise Sciences (NFES) are preparing students to pursue a wide variety of contemporary careers.

Challenging Programs
We design our programs to be challenging and our curriculum emphasizes applied and basic research that prepare scholars and practitioners in the prevention of chronic diseases. Students are eligible to enter NFES when they have met the University requirements for transfer to an upper-division program, including an overall GPA of 2.0. To graduate with any of the majors in NFES, a minimum GPA of 2.5 is required.

Core courses in NFES are designed to ensure that all students receive a firm foundation in essential related knowledge. Core courses include basic nutrition, general and organic chemistry, biochemistry, anatomy, physiology, statistics, psychology, family development education.

The Department's Honors Program invites selected juniors and seniors to participate in independent studies with faculty members who are specialists in their chosen field.

Field Experiences
Students in every major have an opportunity to apply their knowledge and learn new skills through practica and participation in student service organizations. Field experiences include working with the university’s community-based adult fitness program, working in food service, assisting with cholesterol and blood pressure screenings, and answering nutrition questions at community health fairs.

Opportunities
Our programs provide the solid academic and scientific grounding needed to pursue a variety of paths. Graduates may choose to enter the work force, post-baccalaureate internships, graduate school or professional programs such as medical school.
