Welcome to the Cardiovascular Laboratory in the Department of Nutrition, Food and Exercise Sciences at Florida State University directed by Dr. Arturo Figueroa, M.D., Ph.D. The focus of research in our laboratory is primarily directed to the effects of exercise, mainly resistance, on cardiovascular health in aging and chronic diseases associated with physical inactivity.
We are currently study the acute and chronic effects of resistance exercise on arterial stiffness and autonomic control of blood pressure and heart rate in women with fibromyalgia and in trained young men. Future projects in our laboratory will evaluate the effects of resistance exercise training and oral supplements on cardiovascular function and muscle mass in middle-aged and older individuals, especially women.
This website provides an overview of the techniques used in the laboratory.
