Marriage & Family Therapy Center
For more than 25 years, the Florida State University (FSU) Center for Marriage and Family Therapy has provided community-based services to thousands of clients with diverse needs. Diverse doctoral student therapists work with a variety of people from a broad spectrum of socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds.
The Center for Marriage and Family Therapy is a non-profit clinic serving individuals, couples, families, and children. It is unique in that human strengths and challenges are understood to be outcomes dependent on the social and other contexts in which individuals find themselves. To make services available to all who wish them, care is provided on a sliding scale, based on family income.
Student therapists at the Center work with a variety of clients with a wide range of individual, couple, and family concerns from a broad spectrum of socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds. The Center, as an active referral source, collaborates with a wide range of state and community agencies to provide counseling services for their clients.
The Center typically is open – fully staffed -- Monday through Thursday from 9 AM to 9 PM. It is available other days and other hours as needed.
The Center is a research, teaching and training facility for the students in the doctoral MFT program. One or more clinical supervisory faculty individually supervises each student. All clinic supervisors have American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) Approved Supervisor status. The clinical faculty conducts supervision, in accordance with COAMFTE guidelines, using a balanced mix of traditional live, videotaped, and case presentation supervision, both individual and group.
The audio-visual package of the center is state-of-the-art for both clinical supervision and process research. Each treatment room is equipped with two cameras with remote zoom and pan. These feed down into a standard and digital storage bank -- which includes the Landros Play Analyzer System. (We can store, code, and immediately recall for supervision/research 23,000 hours of therapeutic interaction.) In addition there are three computer stations available for the students.
