Jumpstart is a national non-profit early education organization that combats the rising trend of preschoolers in low-income communities entering school without the skills needed to succeed. The program operates 57 sites throughout the nation, each supervised by one of our highly skilled site managers.

Jumpstart engages thousands of college students across the country in devoting their time to making a difference in the lives of young children. Students interested in joining this movement as Jumpstart Corps members commit to serving part-time for at least one full school year in the classroom, during which they participate in two two-hour Jumpstart sessions a week, along with other classroom and training activities. Jumpstart offers students a School Year Program (with 200 or 300 hours of service) or a School Year and Summer Program (with 525 hours of service). Jumpstart pairs highly-trained college students with preschool children struggling in Head Start and other early learning programs for one-to-one tutoring in school readiness skills. This program provides a high-quality, comprehensive experience that focuses on the development of the child, his or her family, and the college student serving as an AmeriCorps member. Through these three program areas — school success, family involvement and future teachers — Jumpstart works to create an environment of life-long learning for children.

Benefits: By becoming a Jumpstart Corps member, college students have a unique opportunity to inspire young children to learn, serve in a local community, work on a team of peers, and build professional sills. Corps members receive intensive training and have the potential of earning a work-study award; and if enrolled as an AmeriCorps member, an educational award of $1,000 - $1,250 upon successful completion of the full service term.
