Master of Science

To apply to a Master of Science program, students should submit application for preferred term. For consideration for the program, applications must be received by each term's application deadline. Deadlines: Summer: March 1st, Fall: July 1st, Spring: November 1st. Requirements for admission into the M.S. programs include:

  1. A grade point average of at least 3.0 (two copies of official transcripts required) and a combined GRE (verbal+quantitative) score of at least 1000.

  2. International students must have a TOEFL score of at least 570 (paper-based) OR 230 (computer-based).

  3. Personal Statement: A letter of intent describing your interests and goals and background. This is an important part of the application. Before writing this letter, we encourage you to familiarize yourself with the research interests of the faculty. Please answer the following questions: (1) What are your professional goals and aspirations? (2) What has led to your decision to undertake graduate studies in the Department of Family and Child Sciences? (3) What research and other scholarly interest would you like to pursue in the Program?

  4. Writing Sample: The writing sample should be a representative sample of your writing, such as a professional report, a paper submitted in an undergraduate or gradute class, or a publication, written only by you.

  5. Resume/Vita

  6. Three Recommendation Waiver Forms, one for each person writing the letter on your behalf, attached to three letters of recommendation.

Attainment of these minimum requirements does not guarantee admission to the program. Admission decisions are based on assessments of all aspects of the student's application materials. We reserve the right to increase standards if warranted by enrollment limitations and by the number and quality of applicants.
