Background of the study
The Early Care and Education Workforce Study has created a statewide database of information aobut the status of the childcare workforce in Florida. A group of agencies and organizations concerned about child advocacy came together to support the development of this data base to assist in informing policy makers and planners/providers of childcare services about the specific needs for improving the conditions of the poorest paid members of the U.S. workforce. They believed that, although there are data that describe the bleak salary, benefits, and career ladder opportunities of child care workers at the national level and from other states, policy makers may be most influenced by data that reflect the status of their own constituents. Further more localized data could be used in strategic planning designed to strengthen the quality and accountability of the child care workforce.
