About the College of Human Sciences

The College celebrated its centennial in 2005, and now boasts an enrollment of over 3,100 students in three departments: Family and Child Sciences; Nutrition, Food and Exercise Sciences; and Textiles and Consumer Sciences. Among the 50 outstanding faculty members in the College, six hold named professorships. With its focus on people, the College of Human Sciences addresses global challenges and opportunities related to the physical, behavioral and economic factors influencing the health and development of individuals, families and communities.

The College hosts the FSU Family Institute which conducts research on relationships and families designed to inform public policy. The Center for Marriage and Family Therapy provides clinical training and supervision for MFT professionals. The Center for Retail Merchandising and Product Development fosters industry and research partnerships. Our research labs include areas for instruction in retail merchandising, textile testing, apparel design and production, food chemistry, biomedical nutrition, human performance, exercise metabolism, motor skills and bone density. Students in the Athletic Training Program work with FSU athletes and coaches in state-of-the-art fitness and clinical settings.

For fiscal year 2006 the College secured over $1.7 million in external grants and contracts to support research and teaching.
