The nation’s first one million dollar endowed chair in human
sciences (formerly home economics) was established at the Florida
State University in March, 1986. The Mack and Effie Campbell Tyner
Chair resulted from a major gift by two sisters, in addition to
donations from more than 300 other alumni and friends and a $400,000
matching gift from the State of Florida. The earnings from the
endowment are used to bring distinguished professors, internationally
renowned researchers, leaders in business, and highly respected
professionals to the university system to work with students,
faculty, and constituents. The Tyner Eminent Scholar Chair contributes
to the College’s goal of providing the finest education
in the country for aspiring professionals in the field of Human
Sciences. The fund now supports the Tyner Chair, the Tyner Lecture
Series, and Tyner Scholar Awards for outstanding graduate students.
